There are lots of books available to you in today's market to help you in planning your child's birthday party. I'm not going to attempt to cover the A to Z's in party planning here, but from the perspective of your Children's Entertainer, I would like to offer a few tips:
~ Keep your child in mind as a priority, especially when planning the time of the party. This is his/her special day. When do they take a nap? Is it at 2:00 every afternoon? If so, your child will either be cranky or asleep and will not enjoy the party as much as if you plan it in the morning or after nap time in the afternoon.
~ Arrange to have your entertainer arrive at least 30 minutes after your party has begun. Many guests will not arrive on time and it would be a waste to pay for entertainment before the guests have arrived at the party.
~ Offer healthy food choices along with the sugary treats. If the children are not completely full of sugar, they are less likely to have melt downs. :)
~ If your party is outside, it's best to provide an area for your children that is away from the harsh elements. (If they are looking up into the bright sun, for example, they will not enjoy a magic show as much as if they are in the shade)
~ Take lots of pictures. If you are going to be busy as host/hostess, can you find a friend or relative and give them the assignment of being photographer? Photos of the birthday child with the hired entertainer are special and sometimes pictures that parents don't remember to take until after the entertainer has left. If you make a list of special photos you want to take before the party and give that list to your photographer, you will be glad you did! (photos might include: birthday child with the cake, with the entertainer, with each friend and the gift they bring - which can be included in thank-you notes, with the parents, etc)
~ Most importantly, relax and have fun! This is your special day to enjoy with your child!
